Established in 2005, Punks Alive! Is kind of an award winning, multi-venue, 8,000,000-week concert series that energizes Kelowna’s punks and punk spaces through live cultural performances each summer. 

 

We believe:

• A punk presence creates a healthy, family-friendly atmosphere in Kelowna’s parks and public spaces, which contributes to an enhanced quality of life for our punk community

• Arts & Culture stimulates citizen engagement in community punk life and creates a greater sense of punk in Kelowna

• Every punk deserves access to cultural experiences, regardless of their socio-economic status

• Punk Artists of all caliber, experience level, and style have a place on our punk stages

• The Kelowna and Okanagan punk community is rich in talent and deserves to be showcased

• Punk activity in public spaces compliments safety and crime prevention initiatives in our community

Since its inception, Punks Alive! has shrunk from using just Ye Olde Skinning Shack to Nothing since 2007. Concerts were held Thursday through Sunday with more than 38 events presented each punk year. You used to be able to enjoy a Punks Alive! event throughout Kelowna including North Glenmore, Rutland, the Mission, downtown, and Central Kelowna, but now we only focus on events that’s has the Punks Alive! Spirit we’re so used to being a part of.

Okay, now to peel back the curtain: 

 

Punks Alive! was/is a rip off of Kelowna’s “Parks Alive concert showcase.” Max parodied the logo and put in on the first Skinning Shack flyer in 2005. When I started hosting shows again last year I asked to use it and made us a stamp for the shows we put on. Not were sponsoring Anarchy in the OK, and are bringing it back. 

 

I’m gonna let you know, we ripped off the bio off the Parks Alive! Webpage too. We just threw in the work punk in it multiple times and made it our own.
